Customer Reviews Analysis
Very good overview, and a reminder of a time when Cleveland actually dominated.
Immaculately researched, Mr. Webster put a lot of energy to retell the history of the AAFC in great detail from off season to regular season for the duration of the league. There are many interesting stories and story lines but unfortunately no first hand accounts or interviews as many, if not all, of the prime participants are no longer with us. In lieu of first hand accounts, it may have made the book more compelling if he explained what made the Browns and 49ers so dominant. At times it reads much like a text book but again to be fair, the research is first rate and it is an exhaustive history about the AAFC.
This is a terrific book for football historians and researchers and just fans of pro football’s rival or other leagues. Mr. Webster’s book on the AAFC is both enlightening and entertaining, as it delves into the history of the league from both an on the field and off the field or behind the scenes viewpoint. It is very well researched, and is full of interesting facts and stories, and it educates the reader as well as entertains. That to me is the best you can ask of a football history book. I highly recommend it.
This is a great history of the league the NFL still refuses to acknowledge, even though 3 teams from the AAFC were absorbed by the NFL. It points out that the overwhelming success of the Cleveland Browns was also the reason for the AAFC’s demise, as the Browns stood far and above every other team. A good read for the casual fan or the diehard.
Nostalgia!
Likes – The chapters detailing the league history and problems. Great introduction to previous Pro leagues.
Dislikes – The chapters detailing in-game action. Was hoping for more details on how players were distributed to the NFL, like the special arrangements for the NY Giants. Overall, a fantastic reference book, very detailed.
Finally a book that tells the why, how and what happened to the AAFC. If you are a pro football history buff “The League That Didn’t Exist” is a must-read. The author lays it all out there for you. The role the founder, commissioners, owners, coaches, players, cities, media and NFL played in the life of the AAFC. You will not be disappointed.
Produit conforme à mes attentes.
